[Archived] Location Change for Installation of Alexandria Mayor and Members of City Council to Prevent Spread of COVID-19; Community Urged to Watch Online or on Cable Channel 70/1084

For Immediate Release: December 29, 2021

The candidates elected by Alexandria voters in November to serve as Mayor and members of City Council will be formally installed at a public meeting on Monday, January 3, 2022, at 6 p.m. The installation meeting has been moved to City Hall in Council Chamber to prevent further spread of COVID-19 while Alexandria is experiencing its highest number of new COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. Due to physical distancing requirements, there will be very limited in-person seating available in Council Chamber.

The public is strongly encouraged to view the installation live online at alexandriava.gov/Video, via Zoom or by broadcast on Comcast cable channel 70/1084. The site was moved from the Alexandria City High School as City Hall technology is better suited to broadcast this meeting. A video recording of the installation meeting will also be available on Tuesday, January 4.

Mayor-Elect Justin M. Wilson and Councilmembers-Elect Canek Aguirre, Sarah Bagley, John T. Chapman, Alyia Gaskins, Amy B. Jackson and R. Kirk McPike will take the oath of office and elect a Vice Mayor. The terms of office for the Mayor and Members of City Council will begin on January 1, 2022, and end on December 31, 2024.
