[Archived] Community Input Requested for FY 2023 Budget Development

For Immediate Release: December 10, 2021

Residents, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to provide input on budget allocation priorities as part of the City of Alexandria’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 budget process. This follows Alexandria City Council’s adoption of its FY 2023 budget guidance on November 9.

To help shape the budget development, provide input using an FY 2023 Community Budget Priorities Survey through December 30. Participants are asked to prioritize program and service types organized into themes, which are based upon the structure of the City's Strategic Plan. The online feedback form is available in Spanish, Amharic and Arabic, and partner organizations will distribute and collect paper copies.

A virtual budget town hall meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 15, at 7 p.m., to provide information about the budget process and topics. During the town hall, attendees will receive answers to their questions about the budget topics and will be encouraged to submit comments about their FY 2023 budget allocation priorities. Beginning Friday, December 17, the recorded town hall will be posted on the City’s website.

Alexandria City Council will receive a report of all feedback gathered, through the form and town hall, at their legislative meeting on January 15, 2022. Feedback will also be used to inform the City Manager’s proposed budget in February and subsequent City Council decisions, as well as use of the City’s second tranche of American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funding.

Community participation in the FY 2023 budget development process informs short-term resource allocation decisions and connects budget decisions to long-term strategic outcomes. This ongoing partnership helps guide the community and city government toward a shared vision of Alexandria’s future.
