[Archived] Park & Recreation Commission to Hold a Public Hearing on the Eugene Simpson Stadium Park Citywide Park Plan Amendment

For Immediate Release:  November 4, 2021

The Park & Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, November 18, 2021 to discuss the option to convert the two Eugene Simpson Stadium Park baseball fields to synthetic turf, in place of natural turf as proposed in the 2014 Plan. The public hearing will be held virtually. To attend the public hearing, visit the Park & Recreation Commission website. If you are unable to attend the public hearing, comments will be accepted by mail or email until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. Please mail written comments to 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

The Park & Recreation Commission will provide a recommendation to staff regarding the proposed to amend the Eugene Simpson Stadium Park Plan amendment to permit include the conversion of one or both diamond fields to synthetic turf. The plan will maintain athletic uses, address stormwater and site drainage issues, and improve site circulation, ADA access and storage.
