[Archived] Alexandria City Council to Hold Virtual and In-person Budget and Planning Retreat November 6

For Immediate Release: November 2, 2021

The Alexandria City Council will hold a hybrid retreat meeting Saturday, November 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to discuss the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Operating Budget process and development of the City’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. The meeting, which will be held at City Hall (301 King St.) in the second-floor Council Chamber, may either be viewed virtually or attended in-person. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, masks are required inside all City facilities.

The first portion of the retreat will be dedicated to discussing the budget. City Council will be briefed on the City’s financial outlook, City employee compensation and Alexandria City Public Schools’ operating budget projections; receive input from the City’s Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee; and begin to discuss FY 2023 Budget Guidance to the City Manager, which will be considered and scheduled for adoption at City Council’s November 9 meeting.

Starting around mid-day, City Council will discuss the process for developing the City’s Strategic Plan for FY 2023-2028, which is scheduled to commence early in calendar year 2022. The current Strategic Plan, its use and its development process will be reviewed, and Councilmembers will provide input on the structure and framework for the next City Strategic Plan and the process to develop it. City staff and officials use the Strategic Plan to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of City programs and services.
