[Archived] City of Alexandria Seeks Community Input on Phase II Revision of Noise Ordinance

On May 15, the Alexandria City Council adopted phase I technical revisions of the City’s noise ordinance. The City is now seeking public input on a phase II revision that would address policy issues associated with land use, noise levels and changes with noise sources. The objective is to finalize this revision for Council consideration by the end of 2021. 

Residents and businesses are encouraged to learn more about the next revision of the ordinance, and provide input via the following opportunities for engagement:

• A recorded presentation that provides background information on how the current noise ordinance regulates and enforces noise issues, as well as introduces a list of 10 potential policy options on which the City would like to get feedback.
• A feedback form for the community to provide comments and suggestions on the 10 policy options discussed in the recorded presentation. The deadline to submit the form is October 22.
• A virtual public meeting on October 28 to discuss results of the public feedback form and to receive the community’s additional comments and suggestions. 

Community input will be used to inform the drafting of the Phase II revision of the noise ordinance. City staff will hold a work session with Council in November to obtain guidance before preparing a draft phase II revision. City staff will present this draft phase II revision to Council for their consideration and adoption following a public hearing, tentatively scheduled for December.
