[Archived] Alexandria City Council Invites Public to Community Town Hall Regarding City Manager Position

For Immediate Release: September 13, 2021

On September 22, the Alexandria City Council will hold a hybrid town hall meeting to receive input from the community about the qualities and values that should be considered in the hiring of the next City Manager. The town hall meeting will be held at City Hall in Council Chamber (301 King St.), from 7 to 9 p.m. and community members will be able to participate either in-person or online. City Council invites residents, business owners, civic leaders and those who frequent Alexandria for work, school, recreation or worship to provide input by requesting to speak during the town hall, or through an online survey.

The survey, available in English, Spanish, Arabic and Amharic, has been extended to receive responses through September 17. The results will be presented at the town hall meeting. The recorded town hall and presentation of results will then be posted on the City’s website for community review.

City Council, to which the City Manager reports, is coordinating and conducting the process for choosing a successor for City Manager Mark Jinks, who announced his impending retirement in June. The City Council anticipates announcing the selection of the new City Manager by the end of 2021.
