[Archived] City of Alexandria to Celebrate PARK(ing) Day

For Immediate Release: September 8, 2021

On Friday, September 17, the City of Alexandria will celebrate PARK(ing) Day, a worldwide event that promotes the importance of creating and preserving public green space in urban areas by temporarily reclaiming on-street parking spaces and transforming them into exciting and imaginative park spaces, or “parklets.”

Join City agencies, local businesses and nonprofit organizations as they transform several on-street parking spaces around the city into parklets and offer prepackaged refreshments and giveaways from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The PARK(ing) Day event is free and open to the public.

To ensure everyone’s safety and prevent the spread of COVID-19, events and activities will meet all health guidelines for staff, participants and spectators.

Visit the City’s PARK(ing) Day page for more information about the event, including a list of parklet locations in Alexandria.
