[Archived] Celebrate Annual USA & City Birthday Celebration In-Person or Virtually on July 10

For Immediate Release: July 8, 2021

Celebrate the City of Alexandria’s 272nd and the USA’s 245th birthday on Saturday, July 10, with a Grand Finale fireworks display visible from multiple vantage points along the Potomac River waterfront. The full program will also be broadcast online starting at 8:45 p.m. with an opening by the Town Crier; a welcome from Mayor Justin Wilson; and a poetry reading by Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta, followed by a performance from the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the fireworks display. Visit alexandriava.gov to view the online broadcast of the event.

To limit crowds and prevent the spread of COVID-19, this year’s fireworks display has been repositioned to be visible from multiple vantage points along the Potomac River waterfront from Canal Center Plaza to Jones Point Park.

Program Schedule:

To further reduce crowds, the event will not include food trucks or food venders, and will not include the distribution of birthday cake or cannon support from the 3d United States Infantry Regiment. Please note the later than usual start time of 8:45 p.m. Please leave pets at home and be mindful of your neighbors by refraining from smoking at this event. In case of inclement weather, fireworks only will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 11, at 9:30 p.m.
