For Immediate Release: June 23, 2021
The Department
of Community and Human Services is hosting free sessions with Community Tax
Aid, Inc. on June 26 and July 10 to help families access the American Rescue
Plan 2021 Child Tax Credit through filing a tax return or signing up without
submitting a return.
Nearly all families with children ages 17
and under will qualify for the new enhanced child tax credit, which provides
$3000-$3600 in tax benefits per child. The credit will provide crucial relief
to low-income families, including those who did not work or make enough to file
a tax return.
Families with eligible children that filed
tax returns for 2019 or 2020 or signed up to receive a stimulus check from the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will get this tax relief automatically and do
not need to take further action.
Families with eligible children who have
not yet filed taxes for 2019 or 2020 need to file as soon as possible. Families
who did not file because they earned too little or did not work can sign up to
receive payments using the easy non-filer sign up tool.
Those needing assistance filing tax
returns or signing up for the credit can call 703.831.2118 to sign up for an
appointment with Community Tax Aid, Inc. on June 26 and July 10 from 9 a.m. -
12 p.m. Any additional dates will be listed online.
