For Immediate Release: June 10, 2021

The Park & Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, June 17, 2021 to discuss the conversion of the upper softball field, as proposed to be natural turf, to synthetic turf. The public hearing will be held virtually. To attend the public hearing, visit the Park & Recreation Commission website. If you are unable to attend the public hearing, comments will be accepted by mail or email until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Please mail written comments to 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

The Park & Recreation Commission endorsed the Joseph Hensley Park Plan amendments on January 21, 2021. The park plan as amended, maintains athletic uses, address stormwater and site drainage issues, increase parking capacity, upgrade the sports lighting and playing fields, and improve site circulation and ADA access. The project will replace the current restrooms and adds a play space and a multi-use court/performance space. To review the design concept, visit the project website.
