[Archived] Historic Alexandria Sites to Participate in Blue Star Museums

Offering free admission to military personnel and their families this summer!

From Armed Forces Day (May 15) through Labor Day select Historic Alexandria Museums are offering free admission to military personnel and up to five family members in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense. To see a full list of participating museums, visit arts.gov/BlueStarMuseums.

The following Historic Alexandria Museums are participating this summer:

Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum
Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Fridays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum
Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Fridays, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays, 1 – 5 p.m.

Friendship Firehouse Museum
Select Saturdays throughout the summer, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

All three museums allow guests to reserve an entry time in advance through alexandriava.gov/Shop. Blue Star participants should select the Blue Star option to reserve their time for free. Only one entry time needs to be reserved for a group of up to 10 people.

About the Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA): The Office of Historic Alexandria preserves and shares the past to enrich the present and inspire the future. OHA shares these stories through museums and landscapes as well as tours, exhibitions, and a variety of public programs. Museums include the Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Alexandria Black History Museum, Alexandria’s History Museum at the Lyceum, Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site, Freedom House Museum, Friendship Firehouse Museum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum. Additional spaces including the African American Heritage Park, Archives and Records Center, Contrabands and Freedmen Cemetery, Murray-Dick-Fawcett House, Lloyd House, and Union Station collectively tell the story of the City. Urban archaeology also plays an active role in uncovering and interpreting Alexandria’s history, recovering artifacts before they are lost to construction. OHA enhances the quality of life for City residents and visitors and is a partner in the City’s equity and inclusion initiatives.
