[Archived] City of Alexandria Moves Into Vaccination Open Scheduling while Approaching 100,000 Vaccines Administered

Immediate Release: April 27, 2021

The City of Alexandria has moved into open scheduling for Alexandria Health Department (AHD) and their partner provider vaccination events to simplify access to vaccines. Residents are now able to directly select their vaccination appointment dates and locations without pre-registering. AHD has attempted to contact all residents and frontline essential workers who previously pre-registered at alexandriava.gov/Vaccines or through the Virginia Department of Health website. Due to increased vaccine supply, upcoming vaccination appointments are still available for the coming week.

All available appointment scheduling links for community vaccination events are now located at alexandriava.gov/Vaccines. The list of available options includes AHD clinics as well as their vaccinating partner clinics, including organizations such as Glob’All and Red Sea. For support scheduling an appointment, call the Alexandria COVID-19 Hotline at 703.746.4988 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

AHD launches open scheduling as Alexandria nears the mark of 100,000 vaccinations administered to residents since vaccines became available in late December 2020. This milestone highlights the hard work by AHD and City staff, the dedication of Medical Reserve Corps and community volunteers, and the contribution of each Alexandrian who has received the vaccine to help end the pandemic. Alexandria has set a target of vaccinating 80% of residents ages 16 and over, which is 106,618 people, against COVID-19 by this summer. To date, more than 30% of eligible residents have been fully vaccinated. With the increase in COVID-19 variants and ongoing significant community transmission in Alexandria, streamlined vaccine appointment open scheduling will increase access to vaccination for all residents and essential workers.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, free and they can save your life. When enough people get vaccinated, Alexandrians can get back to normal.
