[Archived] City of Alexandria Invites Public Input on Alexandria Mobility Plan Draft

For Immediate Release: March 31, 2021

The City of Alexandria invites residents and businesses to review and provide feedback on the draft Alexandria Mobility Plan (AMP). The AMP, a strategic update to the 2008 chapters of the Transportation Master Plan, will ensure that Alexandria residents, businesses and visitors have better access to safe and convenient travel choices as the region grows and technology provides new mobility options. Residents and businesses are encouraged to review the full draft AMP, Executive Summary and overview presentation, and provide input online by Friday, April 30. The Transportation Commission will also hold a public hearing on April 21.

Providing residents, workers and visitors high-quality travel options is at the center of the AMP’s strategies and policies. By making travel options Accessible, Connected, Convenient, Equitable, Safe and Sustainable, this plan seeks to expand ACCESS to choice and achieve a community-developed vision that fosters a thriving Alexandria for all.

The draft AMP includes a range of strategies and policies that:

This plan was developed during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, which dramatically changed travel patterns, and was designed to account for potential changes in needs as a result of increased telecommuting and adjusted work schedules. By incorporating flexibility, adaptation and resilience, the plan is preparing Alexandria for future mobility needs.

The two-year AMP process was a community-driven effort involving thousands of conversations and interactions with Alexandrians from all backgrounds. The collaboration, conversation and engagement with Alexandrians will continue as the plan is advanced and implemented.

All feedback received by April 30 will be presented to the AMP Advisory Committee to help determine how to incorporate feedback into the final plan. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the final plan before the City Council hears public comment and then considers it for adoption in late summer/early fall.
