[Archived] City of Alexandria Provides Updates to Warming Center, Art Center and Recreation Facility Schedules for Winter Storm

Due to the Winter Storm Warning forecasting 3 to 6 inches of snow accumulation in the Alexandria area from Sunday, January 31, at 1 a.m. until 12 a.m. on Monday, February 1, facility schedules are being updated for Sunday, January 31.

Warming centers are being offered through Friday, February 5, to provide relief from the cold for community members who may not have access to a warm shelter during the day. On Sunday, January 31, the following locations will be open as warming centers:

Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Lee Center (1108 Jefferson St.), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All other previously announced warming centers will be closed on Sunday, January 31.

All programs offered by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities are cancelled and the following locations are closed on Sunday, January 31:

Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility (3210 King St.)
Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union St.)
City Marina Piers (0 Cameron St.)

In accordance with federal, state and local health COVID-19 guidelines, visitors to warming centers will be screened by City staff for COVID-19 symptoms (questionnaire and temperature check), and staff and visitors will be required to wear face masks, maintain 6 feet of distance, and wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer frequently. Alexandrians are also encouraged to check on neighbors, via phone or video chat, who may be at risk of hypothermia and keep pets indoors as much as possible.
