[Archived] City of Alexandria’s 2020 Virtual Tree Lighting Ceremony Available November 21

For Immediate Release: November 6, 2020

The City of Alexandria invites the community to spark the season’s spirit with Alexandria’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in the safety and comfort of home. A premiere of virtual presentations and the tree lighting countdown will be available on Saturday, November 21.

“This year, we’ll miss gathering around the tree in Market Square, but we can still celebrate together while staying safe,” said Mayor Justin Wilson. “I invite everyone to enjoy this annual Alexandria tradition.”

To comply with Virginia's Safer at Home Phase Three guidelines, this year's celebration will take place online with virtual presentations, including a proclamation from the Town Crier, remarks from Mayor Wilson, a message from Santa and a poem read by Alexandria Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta.

To experience the virtual celebration, visit alexandriava.gov/Recreation. For more information, call the Special Events Hotline at 703.746.5592.
