For Immediate Release: October 23, 2020
The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural
Activities presented a park design for the extension of Potomac Yard Park to
the Park and Recreation Commission on Thursday, October 15 for endorsement.
There will be a public hearing on the design for the extension of Potomac Yard
Park on November 19, 2020 to provide a written recommendation to the Planning
Commission and City Council for consideration at
their December 2020 public hearings. Those unable to attend the public hearing may submit comments on the design of the extension of Potomac Yard Park by mail or email until Wednesday, November 16.
Potomac
Yard Park is the main designated open space
for Phase 1 of the North Potomac Yard development project. The 4.5-acre park
will be an extension of the currently constructed Potomac Yard Park south of
North Potomac Yard. The park is envisioned to be a regional amenity with a mix
of active, passive, and social uses and will provide
the missing link to create a continuous off-street trail from Braddock
Road to Four Mile Run. View design concept on the project page.
The
design for the extension of Potomac Yard Park has been an iterative process in
2020 including feedback received from the community through virtual community
meetings, Potomac Yard Design Advisory Committee meetings, and presentations to
the Park and Recreation Commission in July and October.
