[Archived] City of Alexandria Named Among “Best and Brightest” in Employee Wellness Programs

For Immediate Release: September 9, 2020

The City of Alexandria’s Work’n Well Employee Program was awarded the “ Best and Brightest in Wellness,” a program of the National Association for Business Resources, which celebrates organizations that are improving employee quality of life and creating healthier communities. More than half of eligible employees have voluntarily enrolled in the program, which provides tools to promote physical, emotional, social, and financial well-being. This supports the mission of City government by helping create a healthier, more productive and resilient workforce to better serve customers.

Winners were evaluated by a wellness systems firm based on quantitative and qualitative data, and scored on a point system. Criteria included outcomes; analysis; tracking; participation and incentives; benefits and programs; leadership; employee input; culture; and environment.

"Through the first half of 2020, the Nation’s Best and Brightest in Wellness winners have demonstrated leadership and forward thinking as they pivoted their business and workforce through COVID-19,” said Jennifer Kluge, president and CEO of Best and Brightest Programs. “As the conversation and focus has shifted, our Best and Brightest winning companies have also been a voice for important actions regarding well-being and race. It is in these unique times, the Best and Brightest in Wellness winners excel and share their knowledge with others."

The Work’n Well Employee Program offers support and resources for all dimensions of well-being. Through Work’n Well Rewards, employees can win awards and incentives based on quarterly progress, as well as insurance premium credit for a higher level achievement milestone. In response to this, employees are more motivated to improve their health, increase work productivity, and boost overall morale. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the City added additional behavioral health support options to assist employees with emotional and mental health.
