[Archived] City of Alexandria Provides Information to Voters Who Receive Third-Party Vote by Mail Applications

For Immediate Release: August 6, 2020

The Alexandria Office of Voter Registration and Elections encourages voters who wish to vote by absentee ballot to apply at  vote.elections.virginia.gov. Many voters recently received pre-filled mail ballot applications from the “Center for Voter Information.” This is an independent organization not affiliated with any government agency. The form is the correct Virginia Vote by Mail Application and can be used by voters to request a ballot for the November 3 general election. Voters can fold the application and return it in the provided envelope. The Center for Voter Information uses publicly available data sources.

The Virginia Department of Elections has issued a statement that some third-party mailings included envelopes with incorrect mailing addresses for local registrars. Envelopes for Alexandria appear to have the correct address for the Alexandria Officer of Voter Registration and Elections. Applications that arrive in the wrong locality's office will be forwarded immediately to the correct office for processing. Voters who have already applied for absentee ballots do not need to submit a second application.

Voters are encouraged to check their voter registration record online at vote.elections.virginia.gov. Voters who have submitted a request for a mail ballot in November do not need to submit another request. Ballots will be mailed to voters beginning the week of September 18, 2020. Other inquiries regarding this mailing can be directed to the Center for Voter Information.
