[Archived] City of Alexandria Hosts “Stay at Home Gala” to Support The Fund for Alexandria’s Child

For Immediate Release: July 30, 2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Fund for Alexandria’s Child will host its annual gala as a virtual event. “The Stay at Home Gala” will be held on August 14, from 8 to 10 p.m. The purpose of the gala is to bring as many people together from the community as possible to respond to the challenges so many are facing this year. This year’s event will include a virtual auction, entertainment, special guests and more. Although attendees cannot gather in person for the gala, there is still an opportunity and a need, now more than ever, for supporters, social workers, resource parents and other community members to connect across Alexandria and beyond. Tickets to the virtual Stay at Home Gala are free, but guests are required to pre-register online

With many families experiencing a loss or change of income this year due to COVID-19, the Fund has received an influx of referrals for families with immediate needs. It is more important than ever that children and families within the child welfare system receive support from the community.

The Fund is supported by volunteers from all walks of life, who aim to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children in our community. The Fund strives to keep families together; meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable families; and find ways to make the lives of foster children seem a little more normal. The Fund purchases emergency bedding; basic housing needs, such as comforters or kitchenware for youth aging out of the foster care system; back to school supplies; holiday gifts; camp registrations; and more.

Major gala sponsors include: The Goodhart Group, Transitions, Hudson Studio, Kids Helping Kids, Catherine Joyce of Morgan Stanley, Bombay Curry Company, Tisdale Law Firm, Barbara Sherlock, and Gary & Noelle McGlynn.

Visit alexandriava.gov/TheFundForAlexChild for more information, and to donate or pre-register for the gala and auction.
