On Tuesday, June 23, there will be a Republican Party primary election for U.S. Senate. Here are six ways Alexandria voters can prepare for Election Day.
For the June 23, 2020 Republican primary for U.S. Senate, due to the lack of availability of many of the regular polling places during the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be six voting locations in Alexandria:
Durant Arts Center (1605 Cameron St.)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at City Hall, Lyles Crouch School, Durant Center, Lee Center and AlexRenew.
Maury School (600 Russell Road)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at Ladrey Senior Building, George Washington School, Fire Department Headquarters, Charles Houston Center and Maury School.
Mt. Vernon Center (2701 Commonwealth Ave.)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at Cora Kelly, Mt. Vernon Center, Potomac Yard, George Mason School and Charles Barrett Center.
Minnie Howard School (3801 W. Braddock Road)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at Blessed Sacrament, Douglas MacArthur School, Chinquapin, Temple Beth El Synagogue and Patrick Henry Center.
John Adams School (5651 Rayburn Ave.)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at NOVA Arts Center, James K. Polk School, Hermitage, John Adams School and William Ramsay Center.
Tucker Schools (435 Ferdinand Day Drive)
This will be the location for voters who normally vote at Beatley Library, Tucker School, South Port Apartments, Cameron Station and Olympus Condos.
On Election Day, you must vote at your designated voting location, so be sure to confirm your voting location, as well as your registration, at vote.elections.virginia.gov; call the Voter Registration Office at 703.746.4050; or view the City's June 23 Voting location map before you go. All voters have been mailed a notice confirming their voting location for June 23.
June 23 is a Republican Party primary election for U.S. Senate. Before Election Day, review the sample ballot to help you make informed choices at the voting booth.
Voters in Virginia do not register by political party, so any person registered to vote in Alexandria may vote in the June 23 Republican primary election.
Election officials are not permitted to provide information about candidates.
There is no Democratic Party primary election, since only one candidate qualified for the ballot.
Per the Executive Order 63, face coverings must be worn in all indoor public settings, including polling places.
Virginia voters must show photo identification (ID) when voting in person. Examples of acceptable ID include: a Virginia driver's license, United States passport, military photo ID, employee photo ID, or student photo ID. You can review the complete list of acceptable identification at the Virginia Department of Elections website.
Voters who do not have an acceptable ID may receive a free Voter Photo ID from Alexandria's Voter Registration & Elections Office (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100), which is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters who do not bring a photo ID when voting may still cast a provisional ballot and have until noon on Friday, June 26, to deliver a copy of their photo ID to the Voter Registration Office or appear in person to apply for a free Voter Photo ID Card.
Voting locations will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must be in line by 7 p.m. to vote at their assigned voting location.
For the June 23 Republican primary election, all voters may vote in advance by either absentee ballot or vote at a polling place on June 23. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail was Tuesday, June 16.
The deadline to cast an absentee ballot in person prior to Election Day is Saturday, June 20, at 5 p.m. Absentee voting is available at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections :
Thursday, June 18, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Friday, June 19, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday, June 20, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
