[Archived] Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Seeks Feedback on Fort Ward Park Playground Improvements

For Immediate Release: June 15, 2020

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is seeking feedback on a virtual presentation regarding proposed improvements to the Fort Ward Park Playground, located at 4301 West Braddock Road.

The design consultants, Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects, have developed a conceptual design of the new playground. A pre-recorded presentation describes the proposed play area location, design elements, and improvements. Comments and questions about the improvements may be submitted through an online feedback form through June 26.

In 2015, the Alexandria City Council approved the Fort Ward Park and Museum Area Management Plan for the 43-acre historic area and park. The plan focuses on the protection and enhancement of the site’s natural and historical resources, interpretation of those resources, pedestrian and vehicular circulation and recreation facilities. The plan recommends relocating the existing playground, which is anticipated to take place in 2021.
