[Archived] 2020 SolarizeAlexandria Program Returns to Assist with Solar Power Systems

For Immediate Release: June 15, 2020

SolarizeAlexandria, a program to make it easier and more affordable for residents and business owners to install solar power systems on Alexandria properties, will hold its sixth annual campaign from June 15 through August 31.

Solar Energy for Homes and Businesses

Each property owner who registers for the SolarizeAlexandria program will receive a free, no-obligation virtual solar site assessment for their home or business. During this virtual assessment, a qualified solar energy professional will evaluate whether solar power is a good option. Property owners who would like to pursue solar energy can take advantage of discounted prices that leverage regional bulk pricing and financing offered by a qualified solar energy professional.

If the property owner decides to install a solar power system, a qualified solar energy professional and installer will conduct as much additional evaluation and design remotely as possible, and schedule with the property owner for any necessary on-site work. The City also offers a property tax exemption for residential property owners for the value of certified solar energy equipment. In addition, upon signing up for SolarizeAlexandria, when in-person assessments resume, homeowners considering solar options will be eligible for a complimentary energy efficiency assessment to identify opportunities to improve the overall energy efficiency in their household.

Electric Vehicle Chargers

This year’s program continues to offer participants the option to purchase a level 2 electric vehicle charging station for your home or business. This 240-volt electric vehicle charging station provides electric vehicle charging up to 20 miles range per hour of charging time. A federal tax credit is also available to reduce the cost of an electric vehicle charging station. Electric vehicle charging stations are not eligible for the City’s Solar Energy Equipment Tax Exemption.
