For Immediate Release: May 27, 2020
The City of Alexandria has announced reopening phases for programs and services offered by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA). The timing of the RPCA reopening phases is anticipated to align with the phases in the Governor’s “Forward Virginia” blueprint for Northern Virginia, but is subject to change.
Programs and facilities will operate according to federal, state and local health guidelines, which include significant adjustments to program size, program format and facility access. Due to safe gathering size restrictions and physical distance requirements, fewer participants than usual will be accommodated during the first two phases in summer camps, classes, pools, fitness rooms and more. Some facility amenities will remain closed until it is safe to reopen in accordance with guidelines.
Each phase of the Governor’s reopening plan provides guidance on size of gathering, physical distance minimums, disinfecting standards, and use of cloth face coverings. Guidance varies by reopening phase and type of activity. Ensuring the health and safety of participants and staff will guide modifications, which allow RPCA programs, services and facilities to operate.
