The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Health Department (AHD) strongly urge everyone to follow state orders to STAY HOME except for essential trips such as food purchases and medical care. If you must leave your home, keep 6 feet apart from others when in public, and wear a cloth face covering if you cannot maintain physical distance. Your neighbors and loved ones are counting on you to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Safe Use and Storage of Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol should be used to keep hands clean whenever soap and water are not available. Alcohol-based products are highly flammable and should not be used or stored next to an open flame. Keep sanitizer handy when handling food outside, but maintain a safe distance from grills and fire pits. While it is safe to store hand sanitizer in a car for use during essential trips, keeping the product out of direct sunlight will help maintain its consistency.
Swimming Pools Remain Closed
All public and private pools in Northern Virginia remain closed under Phase Zero of the Forward Virginia blueprint. Once the region transitions to Phase One, outdoor pools will be permitted to open only for lap swimming, with one swimmer per lane and no gatherings of 10 or more on the deck. Additional information about the timing of Phase One and the operations of City pools is expected in the next week.
DASH Begins to Expand Service Effective May 24
Effective Sunday, May 24, DASH will begin an expanded schedule. Additional service on key routes will allow passengers to maintain adequate physical distancing on buses. DASH will continue to operate its largest buses, block some seats, use rear boarding to minimize crowding at fareboxes and exposure to bus operators, and clean and disinfect buses daily. Passengers are still are required to wear face coverings until further notice. Most routes follow the regular DASH Saturday timetable, with some exceptions. The King Street Trolley remains suspended until further notice.
46 New COVID-19 Cases and 1 Fatality Added in Alexandria
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Alexandria is now 1,703, including 38 fatalities. Detailed data is available through the links at alexandriava.gov/Coronavirus. It is critical for all community members, even those who don't have a diagnosed illness, to stay home except for essential trips such as brief visits to the pharmacy, doctor, or grocery store.
