The voter registration deadline for Virginia's June 23 Republican primary election for U.S. Senate is May 26. Any eligible U.S. citizen who will be 18 years old by November 3, 2020, is eligible to register and vote in this primary. Voters in Virginia do not register by political party.
There is no Democratic primary election on June 23, since only one candidate qualified for the ballot.
If you have moved since the last time you voted, please make sure you are registered at your current address. You may check your registration at vote.elections.virginia.gov or by email at voters@alexandriava.gov, or by calling 703.746.4050. Voters who do not update their registration records before the deadline are at risk of being ineligible to vote in this election.
The following voter registration methods are available to U.S. citizens living in Virginia who will be 18 or older by November 3, 2020:
Submit the application online at vote.elections.virginia.gov before midnight, May 26.
Register in person at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100) by 5 p.m. on May 26.
Download an application at alexandriava.gov/Elections. Print, sign and mail the completed form to the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA 22314. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 26.
Voter information letters for new or transferred registrants will be mailed within one week of the registration date.
The Virginia Department of Elections encourages all voters to cast their ballots by mail to avoid in-person contact during the COVID-19 pandemic. All voters are eligible and encouraged to use reason 2A (“My disability or illness") on the absentee voting application due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Voters can submit absentee ballot applications online at vote.elections.virginia.gov.
Virginians who are registered to vote must show photo identification when voting in-person. Check alexandriava.gov/Elections or call 703.746.4050 for a list of accepted photo identification and other election information, including sample ballots, by mail absentee ballot applications and in-person absentee voting hours. In-person absentee voting for this election continues until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20.
