The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Health Department (AHD) strongly urge everyone to follow state orders to STAY HOME except for essential trips such as food purchases and medical care, and keep 6 feet apart from others when in public. Your neighbors and loved ones are counting on you to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Refuse and recycling collection provided by the City will start at 6 a.m., beginning Monday, May 4. The annual shift to an hour earlier start time helps collection crews stay safe by avoiding collection during the high, midday heat of the summer months. As the City continues to address a historic increase in residential trash and recycling, remembering to set out trash by 6 a.m. on each regular collection day is another way to support the health and well-being of essential workers. The Virginia Department of Social Services has launched a new website and app designed as a "one-stop" resource for individuals, families and businesses to access benefits, services and critical information related to essential needs such as food, child care, healthcare, housing, unemployment insurance and more.

It is critical for all community members, even those who don't have a diagnosed illness, to stay home except for essential trips such as brief visits to the pharmacy, doctor, or grocery store.
