[Archived] City of Alexandria Encourages Residents to “Take 10 to Complete the Census” on National Census Day

For Immediate Release: April 1, 2020

The City of Alexandria urges residents to take part in the 2020 U.S. Census on April 1, National Census Day. Last month, Alexandrians have been mailed invitations to complete the survey online. As the entire country works to stop the spread of COVID-19 by maintaining physical distance, washing hands, and staying home, there’s no better time to complete the 2020 Census online.

Every Alexandria household is required to respond to the 2020 Census. Completing the Census is safe, easy and fast. Personal information is confidential, even from other government agencies. The Census is available in 13 languages, and language support is available in 59 languages. The form can be completed online, by phone, or via a paper survey, and takes the average person less than 10 minutes to complete. Opportunities to complete the Census on paper or through an in-person visitation will follow if the online form is not submitted.

The Census is our opportunity to count all residents in Alexandria regardless of age, race, ethnicity, citizenship status or any other demographic characteristic. An accurate count ensures all residents are represented fairly in federal and state government, and forms the basis for $675 billion in federal resources to be allocated correctly across state and local jurisdictions.

Take 10 to ensure Alexandria is counted!
