For Immediate Release: October 30, 2019
The City of Alexandria celebrates two major milestones at Torpedo Factory Art Center in 2019. This year marks the 100th year of the building and the 45th year of the Art Center. To commemorate the occasions, the public is invited to an Anniversary Ball on Saturday, November 16, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $75 per person and are available at torpedofactory.org/Ball. Register by October 31 to receive the $60 early registration rate. The Art Center is located at 105 N. Union St.
Mikaela Lefrak, WAMU arts and culture reporter, leads a lively evening of art, music, dancing, film, performance and memories. The party will swing to the big-band sounds of Good Shot Judy. Alexandria-based Istrico Productions premieres their documentary about the Art Center’s long and storied history, stretching back to 1919.
Many of the Art Center’s first artists will return for the festivities as Target Gallery opens 45: An Anniversary Exhibition, featuring artwork and ephemera from the Art Center’s earliest days to today. Other highlights include: printmaking and demos with Patrick Sargent, video projections by Monica Stroik, glass harpist Jamey Turner welcoming guests at the start of the evening, living painted sculptures with Rebecca Rose, roving performers, light fare and bar.
This event is sponsored in part by: Dominion Energy, Alexandria Restaurant Partners, The Art League and John Farr Lighting Design.
