[Archived] Alexandria Health Department to Host Free Flu Shot Clinic on October 19

For Immediate Release: October 2, 2019

The Alexandria Health Department will host a free flu shot clinic on October 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Patrick Henry Elementary School (4643 Taney Ave.). Flu shots are available for adults and children ages six months and older at no cost. No insurance or proof of residency is required. The Alexandria Health Department encourages all members of the community to get a flu vaccine.

Influenza is a serious illness that affects millions of Americans every year. An annual flu shot can reduce illness and hospitalizations, protect pregnant women and be lifesaving for children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone six months and older. The ideal time to get vaccinated is by the end of October (although getting vaccinated later can still be beneficial).

This event also helps protect the community by allowing Health Department staff to vaccinate a large number of people in a field setting, which is an important skill for responding to public health emergencies.

Visit the CDC FAQs page for more information about the flu and flu vaccine.
