[Archived] City of Alexandria to Host Free Flu Shots for Public

For Immediate Release: September 24, 2019

The Alexandria Health Department is hosting a free flu shot clinic on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Patrick Henry Elementary School (4643 Taney Ave.).  Free flu shots are available for all adults and children ages six months and older. All members of the community are welcome; no insurance or proof of residency is required.

The flu is a serious illness that affects millions of Americans every year.  An annual flu shot can reduce illness and hospitalizations, protect pregnant women, and can be lifesaving for children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone six months and older before flu begins spreading in the community (typically by the end of October). Please visit the CDC Seasonal Flu Prevention page for more information about flu prevention and the flu vaccine.

We encourage all members of our community to come and get free influenza vaccine. The flu clinic provides the Health Department an opportunity to vaccinate a large number of people in a community setting and allows the City to test capabilities for responding to public health emergencies that require vaccination. Information about this event can also be found at alexandriava.gov/Health

This flu clinic is part of the preparedness activities that Alexandria Health Department participates in each year and follows the Health Department activities during National Preparedness Month in September. During that time the Alexandria Health Department along with Medical Reserve Corps volunteers were out in the community at various events and festivals promoting preparedness for families and their pets.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended. To request a reasonable accommodation, email jasmin.johnson@vdh.virginia.gov or call 703.746.4835, Virginia Relay 711.
