[Archived] Alexandria Police Investigate Non-Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

The Alexandria Police Department was involved in a non-fatal officer-involved shooting that took place this morning inside a residence/residential building in the 300 block of North Beauregard Street.

At approximately 3:17 a.m. on Friday, September 13, Alexandria Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress. During the course of investigation, two officers encountered an adult male suspect armed with a firearm. The officers shot and wounded the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

The officers were not physically injured during the incident. There were no reports of injuries related to the burglary call.

Per Alexandria Police policy, Virginia State Police will be handling the criminal investigation into the shooting and provide further updates. Also, per Alexandria Police policy, the officers involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. The officer’s names are not being released at this early stage of the investigation.
