[Archived] City of Alexandria to Hold Annual Dog Swims

For Immediate Release: September 3, 2019

Treat your pooch to a late summertime dip at the City of Alexandria’s Itty Bitty Doggie Dive. Dogs under 25 pounds can enjoy a pool to themselves on September 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Charles Houston Recreation Center Memorial Pool (901 Wythe St.). The Big Dog Day Swim on September 21 is already full and only a few spaces remain for the Itty Bitty Doggie Dive, so reserve your ticket today. Tickets are required to attend and may be reserved online.

These annual events follow the end of summer pool season, and offer dogs the chance to swim and play games in the City’s outdoor pools before the pools are drained and cleaned for the winter. Thanks to the generous support of Your Dog’s Best Friends, admission is free.

Dog handlers must be at least 16 years old and cannot enter the pool with their dogs. Dogs must be sociable and remain leashed while on the pool deck. To gain entry, each dog must either wear a current vaccination tag or have a current rabies certificate or veterinarian letter. Space is limited to 100 dogs in the pool area at one time.
