[Archived] Alexandria Police Lieutenant Graduates from SPI Command Officer’s Development Course

Alexandria Police Lieutenant Matthew S. Weinert graduated from the 84^th session of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer’s Development Course (SPI CODC) on July 26, 2019. The SPI CODC is a professional course of study for mid to upper level law enforcement managers. The course is 10 weeks long and the 84^th session was hosted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. SPI is a part of the University of Louisville. Participants and instructors of the CODC are drawn from around the nation. 

Lieutenant Weinert is currently the commander of the Vice/Narcotics Section and the commander of the Civil Disturbance Unit within the police department. Lieutenant Weinert joined the police department in 2004. During his tenure with the department he has been assigned as a uniformed patrol officer and Field Training Officer. Upon his promotion to sergeant he served as a first line supervisor in Patrol, Crash Reconstruction, and Crime Scene Investigations. As a lieutenant he has served as a Patrol Shift Commander, Watch Commander and as the Internal Investigations Commander.

Lieutenant Weinert enjoys serving the City of Alexandria. He finds the work he does rewarding. During his time with the Department he has received awards from the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, Smooth Operator Program and a Bronze Valor Award from the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.  

Lieutenant Weinert is the first Alexandria Police Department commander to complete the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer’s Development Course.
