For Immediate Release: July 19, 2019
Due to anticipated extreme heat, the City of Alexandria will not hold several events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 20-21. The extreme temperatures, combined with high humidity, can be dangerous and even life-threatening without proper precautions.
The impacted events and activities are as follows:
Tons of Trucks at Chinquapin Park, scheduled for Saturday, July 20, is being cancelled. The event will not be rescheduled in 2019 because it requires a full year of planning and coordination among the seven City departments that provide more than 20 vehicles for the public to explore. Visit alexandriava.gov/Recreation for details about refunds for tickets purchased in advance.
Family Fun Swim Night at Memorial Pool, scheduled for Saturday, July 20, is being cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Visit alexandriava.gov/Aquatics for information about upcoming outdoor pool events.
The free Mirror Mirror music performances by David Schulman at Waterfront Park are being rescheduled. The performance by Tillery, originally scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at 9 p.m. has been postponed to Sunday, July 28, at 8 p.m. The performance by Bonnie Lander originally scheduled for Sunday, July 21, at 8 p.m. is being postponed to August 15, at 9 p.m. Visit alexandriava.gov/Arts for information.
