[Archived] City of Alexandria to Release Results from Community Needs Assessment Survey

The Alexandria Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) will host a community meeting to share the results of its Community Needs Assessment survey on July 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at City Hall in Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 (301 King St.).

The EOC conducts a Community Needs Assessment every three years, which provides qualitative and quantitative data specific to poverty in Alexandria. The report details demographic information, key findings on the causes and conditions of poverty, and the needs of the community. The report also contains recommendations for additional services for low-income residents.

The EOC was created in 1966 to serve as an advisory commission for the Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services. The EOC advises Alexandria City Council, the Virginia General Assembly and the local congressional delegation on issues related to poverty within Alexandria. Areas of particular concern include employment, affordable housing, homelessness prevention, utility costs and abusive lending practices.

The community meeting will include an open house from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and a reception and presentation of the Community Needs Assessment Survey Report from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
