[Archived] City of Alexandria to Release Findings from Community Needs Assessment Survey

On Tuesday, July 9, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Alexandria City Hall (Sister Cities Rm. 1101, 301 King St.), the Alexandria Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) will host a community meeting to share results from its Community Needs Assessment Survey.

The meeting will include an open house from 5:30 to 6 p.m.; and a reception and presentation of the Community Needs Assessment Survey Report from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

The EOC conducts a Community Needs Assessment every three years. The survey is intended to provide current data (qualitative and quantitative) specific to poverty in the Alexandria. The report details demographic information, key findings on the causes and conditions of poverty, and the needs of the community. Additionally, the report contains recommendations to the City for additional services for low-income residents.

The Economic Opportunity Commission was created in 1966 to serve as an advisory commission for the Department of Community and Human Services, Alexandria’s Community Action Agency. The Commission advises Alexandria City Council, the Virginia General Assembly and its congressional delegation on matters related to the causes and condition of poverty within Alexandria. Areas of particular concern include employment, affordable housing, homelessness prevention, utility costs and abusive lending practices.
