The Alexandria Police Department has announced that the total reported nuisance crimes decreased 23.5 percent in Alexandria for calendar year 2018 versus 2017.
There were 2,445 nuisance crimes reported in 2018 (including destruction, vandalism, prostitution, drug and narcotic offenses, gambling, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, drunkenness, and liquor law violations), down from 3,194 in 2017.
"I commend the men and women of the Alexandria Police Department for all they do to keep the public safe,” said Police Chief Michael L. Brown. “The decrease in crime is a testament to the skill, dedication and professionalism of our officers as well the renewed focus on community policing and public outreach.”
