Plan to bring your family to First Friday: “Taste of Cinco de Mayo” at the Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 West Reed Ave.) on Friday, May 3. The evening will be showcase Mexican music food, music and dance. Mexican culinary delights start your evening sponsored by local restaurants. Food sponsors to date are Guapo’s, Taqueria el Poblano, Los Toltecos, and Los Tios Grill restaurants.
Meet and Greet begins at 6 p.m. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Mobile Art Lab will be on hand with some interactive art activities and there will be pinatas for 5-6-year-olds, 7-8-year-olds and 9 – 12-year-olds. Beginning at 7 p.m., the Leonard Armstrong Recreation Center’s youth dance groups will be showcased performing Latin inspired pieces. Culminating the evening’s festivities will be Baltimore’s own Bailes de Mi Tierra Mexican Folk Dance Group. Bailes de Mi Tierra ’s mission is to preserve, promote, and present Mexican & Latin American traditions through its music, dance, and folklore. The group has become a community favorite in the Tri-state region for its rich representation of its heritage and traditions.
All tickets, $5 per person. Families of four are $15. Children under 5 years old are free. Children must be accompanied by one adult. Register online by visiting alexandriava.gov/WebTrac, select Tickets.
