[Archived] City of Alexandria Seeks Community Input on Final Budget Proposals

For Immediate Release: April 12, 2019

The City of Alexandria is seeking community input on final proposals by members of Alexandria City Council for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Budget. On February 19, City Manager Mark Jinks proposed his FY 2020 Budget to City Council. Over the past seven weeks, City Council has held eight public budget work sessions to discuss the proposed budget in further detail. The budget process allows for members of Council to propose additions and subtractions from the proposed budget prior to approval (also referred to as “Add/Delete”). These proposals have been prepared this week and are summarized in Budget Memo 70.

“Adopting a budget is the most important annual responsibility of City Council,” said Mayor Justin Wilson. “It’s important for the community to weigh in on this process so the adopted budget meets our community’s needs and reflects our values.”

This is the final opportunity for the public to provide input on the FY 2020 budget before it is adopted by City Council on May 1. Comments may be submitted online through April 28, or provided in person at a public hearing on Saturday, April 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in City Hall (301 King St.). City Council will discuss the Add/Delete proposals at work sessions on April 23 at 6 p.m. and April 29 at 7 p.m. Work sessions are open to the public but do not include public comment.
