[Archived] Alexandria Police Arrest Man for Rape of Juvenile

For Immediate Release: March 13, 2019

The Alexandria Police Department has completed an investigation into a rape that occurred over nine years ago at a home on Edsall Road.

In February 2019, a 15-year-old girl reported to police that an adult male raped and sexually assaulted her in the City of Alexandria between 2009 and 2010. Detectives fully investigated the reported incident and arrested the suspect. On March 5, 2019, Luis Hernandez Rivera, 54, of Prince William County, was charged with one count of Aggravated Sexual Battery and one count of Rape of Child.

The Alexandria Police Department will fully investigate sexual offenses, when enough information exists, no matter when the offense occurred. Even if a victim does not contact the police department, it is important for them to know that the offense is not their fault and there are support services available in the City Alexandria.

The City’s Sexual Assault Center offers a 24/7 confidential hotline at 703.683.7273, individual counseling, support groups, family support and information and referral services. Call the hotline to access these and additional services, or visit the website at alexandriava.gov/SexualViolence. In case of an emergency and for life-threatening situations, always call 911.
