[Archived] City of Alexandria to hold Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate the Completion of the Simpson Playground Renovation Project on March 23

For Immediate Release: March 8, 2019

City Council invites the public to celebrate the renovation of the Simpson Park Playground and adjacent passive lawn on Saturday, March 23 at 9 a.m. at 426 E Monroe Ave. The event will occur rain or shine.

The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities worked with Alexandria-based landscape architecture firm Lardner/Klein to lead the design process,  May + Watkins to incorporate public art within the site, and Deborn Construction Inc. as general contractor. The team designed the playground to reflect community input and recommendations from the 2014 Citywide Parks Improvement Plan. The playground includes improved open space to accommodate multiple passive uses and activities, an obstacle course, balance logs, play equipment for ages 2-12, and a climbable public art piece. The new design aims to promote social connection and play for Alexandria families.
