First Friday: “Mardi Gras in Alexandria” March 1

Wear purple, green and gold while enjoying the “The Not So Modern Jazz Band Quartet (and Friends)” by attending the First Friday: “Mardi Gras in Alexandria on Friday, March 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St.  Mardi Gras in Alexandria carnival customs will be celebrated and make a Mardi Gras mask or bring your own and plan to participate in the evening’s Mardi Gras parade.  A “meet and greet” begins at 6p.m.  with light refreshments complements of the Office of the Arts.  Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m.

First Friday: “Mardi Gras in Alexandria” tickets are $9 per person, children under 5 years old are free. To purchase your ticket, visit www.alexandriava.gov/Arts and click on Durant Arts Center.

Puppet Shows at the Durant Arts Center – March 16

The National Capital Puppetry Guild continues their series of monthly family-friendly puppet shows at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St. on Saturday, March 16 with two shows beginning at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. featuring Joe Pipik’s Backpack Puppets 5 Senses Dinosaur Show.

Joe Pipik’s Backpack Puppets have delighted audiences from New York to Honolulu. In a career spanning more than three decades, Joe has created and performed nationwide. He is an award winning theater artist, actor, puppeteer, juggler, songwriter, musician, and as an education consultant, Joe is also a master artist with Wolf Trap’s Early Learning Institute.
