[Archived] City of Alexandria to Host Virtual Information Session on Virginia Tech Innovation Campus

The City of Alexandria will hold a virtual information session with Virginia Tech to outline plans for the university’s Innovation Campus in Alexandria, and to answer related questions from the public. The interactive session will take place on Thursday, February 21, from 8 to 9 p.m., and will be accessible on the City’s website and via cablecast on AlexTV (Comcast channels 70 & 1084).

Panelists will include Stephanie Landrum, President and CEO of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership; Karl Moritz, the City’s Director of Planning and Zoning; and Brandy Salmon, Managing Director of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.

Panelists will give brief introductions, host a roundtable discussion, and answer questions from the public. Questions may be submitted in advance, or asked live during the online session, via text at 703.405.8902, or by phone at 703.746.3300.  A recording of the session will be available online after the session ends.

Virginia Tech’s historic commitment to build a $1 billion technology-focused campus in Alexandria is part of a comprehensive higher-education package that was cited as a key reason Amazon selected Northern Virginia for a new headquarters site. The announcement also included a wide variety of investments in transportation infrastructure, affordable housing and education.

After working together with state officials for the last year in a unique and unprecedented regional partnership, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria announced in November 2018 that Amazon will invest approximately $2.5 billion to establish a new headquarters in the Pentagon City and Crystal City parts of Arlington, which will create more than 25,000 high-paying jobs. Virginia Tech’s Innovation Campus will offer master’s and doctoral level programs that dovetail with the high-tech industry’s most pressing demands. This unique mix of academic and research space, co-located with business and industry partners, will be a collaborative magnet for leading tech talent, research, and education.
