[Archived] City of Alexandria Summer Camp Guide Now Available; Registration Begins February 13

For Immediate Release: February 4, 2019

Registration for 2019 summer camps offered by the City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 13, for City residents and Friday, February 15, for nonresidents. Registration is available online, or in-person at the Lee Center (1108 Jefferson St.).

The 2019 Summer of Smiles Summer Camps Guide is also available online, and free printed brochures are available at City Hall (301 King St.), and in all City of Alexandria recreation centers and library branches. The guide contains 75 camp options available to youth ages 2 to 17, including sports, creative arts, computers, nature, performing arts, excursions, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Camp Adventure, Out of School Time and classic camps. Campers get the most out of summer by participating in a different camp each week. To make summer planning easy, an index lists camps available by week and age group.

Extended care options are available for most camps to enhance the fun and provide parents extra time, including Before Care from 7 to 9 a.m. and After Care from 4 to 6 p.m. Structured activities include arts and crafts, movies and games.

The popular summer-long Out of School Time camps are now available to nonresidents at select locations: Power-Up for ages 6-11 at Charles Houston and Patrick Henry Recreation Centers and Power-On for ages 11-14 at George Washington Middle School. Registration for these camps opens to nonresidents on May 1.

Registration for all other spring and summer programs, including activities, classes and leagues occurring April through August will begin on Wednesday, March 13, for Alexandria residents and Friday, March 15, for nonresidents. The Spring and Summer Program Guide will be available online and in City facilities beginning Wednesday, February 27.

Space is still available and registration is currently being accepted for Winter programs taking place through March and Spring Break Camps taking place April 15-19.
