Aphroditite (Hathor) is an ancient Kemetic goddess associated with love, fertility, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. She was stolen by the Greeks from ancient Kemet, then forced to believe her beauty was a curse. Believing in this curse, her bloodline used their beauty to hypnotize, entrance, and spellbind those who wished to harm their well-being. Taking inspiration from this mythos, this exhibition is influenced by the culture of black beauty, gentrification, and how they two interact with regard to community pride, unity, and confidence.

Every Second Friday, Torpedo Factory Art Center stays open late for a night of gallery receptions, music, performances, and interactive fun. In February, the Art Center spreads love through art, music, and healing arts. Mobile Art Lab joins with reiki healer Cierra Ross. Target Gallery hosts a reception and gallery talk for its newest exhibition, Ritualisms. The Omi Collective artist cooperative co-curates the night with a series of ceremonies and healing rituals.

In the February installation of Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Torpedo Talk series, Artist Jamilla Okubo moderates a panel discussion about black women artists and the role these narratives play in the greater metropolitan area. Double Dutch fun with DC Retro Jumpers
