[Archived] POSTPONED: “Chinese New Year Celebration”

Due to inclement weather, the First Friday: Chinese New Year Celebration schedule for this evening, has been postponed to Saturday, February 16 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Durant Arts Center, 1605 Cameron St.

Get dressed in your finest, fun attire for the Office of the Arts’ “First Friday: Chinese New Year Celebration”. The evening will include the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe dancing several traditional Chinese Folk Dances accompanied by Alice Guzheng Ensemble, Mr. Zhang on a traditional instrument called hulusi, and a vocalist Mr. Lin.  A Chinese Kungfu, Martial Arts demonstration and the City’s Mobile Art Lab leading interactive art activity will round off the evening’s festivities. There will be definitely something for every member of your family.  Plan to come in traditional Chinese outfits and experience China in Alexandria!

A “meet and greet” begins at 6 p.m.  with festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be available complements of the Office of the Arts.  Children under 5 years old are free. Children must be accompanied by one adult. 

The Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe is a non-profit amateur group, dedicated to sharing art and culture while promoting cross-cultural understandings. For information visit http://fcdtdance.org

Tickets for the First Friday: Chinese New Year Celebration are $9 per person. Children under 5 years old are free. Make your reservation today at www.alexandriava.gov/Arts and select Durant Arts Center. Tickets are available at the door.
