[Archived] City of Alexandria Urges Caution During Dangerously Cold Temperatures; Shelter Available

For Immediate Release: January 21, 2019

The City of Alexandria urges caution based on dangerously cold temperatures in the region, which have resulted in forecasted wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory and a Wind Advisory through mid-day Monday, meaning that cold wind chills may cause frostbite to exposed skin and gusty winds may blow away unsecured objects.  Time outdoors should be limited as much as possible, and those who must be outdoors should take precautions to stay safe. A winter weather shelter is available today as described below, including shuttle pickups and drop-offs from several locations.
