For Immediate Release: January 7, 2019
To celebrate National Mentoring Month in January, the City of Alexandria invites the public to join the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership in raising awareness about the benefits of mentoring programs and the positive effects of mentoring for Alexandria’s most vulnerable residents. The Alexandria Mentoring Partnership (AMP) represents 10 programs that strive to provide exceptional support to youth and adults in the Alexandria community.
There are three ways to celebrate:
Attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 8, at 7 p.m., at City Hall (301 King St.). At the meeting, Councilmembers will welcome mentors and mentees and present a proclamation declaring January as Alexandria Mentoring Month. The meeting will also be broadcast at that time on AlexTV (Comcast Cable Channel 70) and on the City's website.
Attend an Open House at the Lyceum (201 S. Washington St.) on Thursday, January 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to engage with mentoring programs, hear personal reflections from mentors and mentees, and learn about how to become a mentor. This event is free, but attendees are asked to register online or by email to azuree.bowman@alexandriava.gov.
Make a donation to help “Wrap the AMP Van!” Proceeds from this fundraiser will help to “wrap” the back of the Alexandria Mentoring Partnership van with mentor recruitment advertising to help raise visibility and awareness. AMP is working to raise $1,095 during this campaign, which will end on January 31. All contributions are tax-deductible to extent provided by law. Visit alexandriava.gov/Mentoring to make a donation.
