[Archived] Alexandria Tourist Sites Open During Federal Shutdown; City Assists at Jones Point Park

The City of Alexandria’s museums, historic sites, parks, and recreation and art centers are unaffected by the current partial shutdown of the federal government and will be open according to their regular schedules. In partnership with Visit Alexandria, the City is offering a free Key to the City Museum Pass (a $44 value) to overnight visitors and local federal government employees. The Pass includes access to nine historic sites, a visit to the Observation Deck atop the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, a discount to George Washington’s Mount Vernon and more.  

Jones Point Park and other open air sites along the George Washington Memorial Parkway (such as the Mount Vernon Trail) are currently accessible. The City of Alexandria is assisting the National Park Service by removing trash from Jones Point Park while the agency is shutdown. Other facilities along the Parkway, including restrooms, are currently closed.
