[Archived] Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

For Immediate Release: December 2, 2018

The Alexandria Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting that took place this afternoon in the 900 block of N. Patrick Street

At approximately 4:21 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018, Alexandria Police responded to multiple calls for shots fired in the neighborhood. During the course of investigation an officer encountered an adult male suspect. The officer shot and wounded the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. 

The officer was not physically injured during the incident. There were no reports of injuries related to the initial "shots fired" calls. 

Per Alexandria Police policy, Virginia State Police will be handling the criminal investigation into the shooting and provide further updates. Also per Alexandria Police policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave. The officer's name is not being released at this early stage of the investigation.
